People vastly overestimate the things that are totally automatable in both personal and business life.
Realistically, how many things can you say "go do that" to AI and the thing just runs off and does it with no back and forth and no iteration and no false starts?
"Please build me this perfect app that I have in my mind." Unless it can read your mind, the process is one of constant back and forth and iteration and the creativity comes from that very process. It cannot be short circuited.
I'm about to go full contrarian here.
I believe we want a co-creative machine revolution.
Not replacements and not full automation in most cases.
Co-creative.
We want smart machines that jive with us, jam with us, work with us, make our lives better/faster/easier/more fun.
We do not want machines that replace us and do everything while we all live in the freaking Stacks off the government dole.
Does anyone actually trust UBI until we get to Star Trek level society/culture? Aka not in my f*ing lifetime or yours. Have you watched the news, man? I mean, would you trust any actual government in the real world right now to handle all your income and do it well, like any one on them on Earth, and would you even want that?
There is no enlightened fictional government of wise sage scientists and technocrats. That doesn't exist outside of storybooks so we need something different.
Screw UBI.
Maybe when we get to the Culture.
But for that we need real super genius humanitarian AI that are way, way beyond us and they should probably be running the show because I don't see how the hell we could do it.
And neither did Ian M. Banks without magic machines, which is why he created the Culture AIs in the first place because he said to himself "ain't no way any humans could do this super-egalitarian, universally amazing and beneficial society, so I better write God machines who are much wiser/gentler/kinder than us." (paraphrased badly)
