The FIFA Club World Cup finale is this coming Sunday ⚽️ Just before the tournament kicked off, @johnwastaken joined us at SEG3 London to talk about the launch of @FIFARivals, and how blockchain is helping them to monetise fans that just want to play rather than spend.

Won’t comment too much on the $END launch today, as of course it was disappointing for gaming as a whole. But I’m still on the mountain top screaming the same economic model I’ve had in mind for 4 years. Crypto Games: - Build an actual f*kn game. - Allow players to trade their ASSETS (skins, weapons, abilities, etc) - Use a normal, stable coin or main chain token with less volatility as the settlement method - Game makes money on small sliver of marketplace fees from players trading their assets - Doesn’t segregate the player/investor base like we see with gaming tokens currently (there’s a whole sector of CSGO players who trade, and then a whole other that doesn’t care whatsoever and just plays the game) - If the game is actually worth playing, the assets will show that in their value on secondary markets - Blockchain used as the settlement layer to store your assets and verify legitimacy, easy way to transact, etc. We see this basically same model but more extractionary in traditional games like Warzone, Fortnite etc who just push out endless asset packs to sell their players. Except you’re trapped in those skins and can’t resell them. And in Warzone case. They just delete your old assets like they never existed. Games and blockchain do have a fit. But we can’t keep running the same playbook of play to airdrop, VC backed, horrible dilution tokens that more or less add minimum value to the ecosystem, and 90% of the time actually hurt it. Rant over.
