It's shameful that Kevin Hassett called for "disciplining" researchers at the NY Fed today. I truly hope he walks it back as a comment made in haste. Part of my job in government was defending the President's policies. But you can do it without burning everything down. Eg:

This was after a CBO report said the ACA would reduce employment. Republicans characterized it as saying it would "kill jobs" aka reduce labor demand. I made the first-order point that CBO was more about supply than demand (and more about income than substitution effects).
I also talked about effects CBO left out and uncertainty. Did I overemphasize points on our side and deemphasize points on the other side? Yes. Did I use uncertainty to shade the effect to zero and not to larger? Yes. Were my major points correct? I would also argue yes.
