If you've followed me for a while, you know that one of my hobby horses is the importance of having a strong, well-developed ego before you try to transcend it with meditative practice. To that end, I just published a guided meditation with instructions for traditional Rinzai za-zen, which I think is a foundational practice for developing the physical sense of a centered, grounded self. (The center later gives way, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.) Like all Zen meditation, it's best to learn from a Zen master or qualified teacher, because it's a subtle practice with a lot of finer points. You'll progress faster. But if you live somewhere that's too far from a Zen center, or you haven't yet found a good teacher online, you can use these instructions. Link below:
