The easiest way to laugh about it is to break the status roles and play the opposite role than you may 'objectively' be in the situation. The strange thing about the status game is that once you start warping it, you realize it is all story - it isn't real. It's just the premise of how we treat each other, or feel the need to. If you violate the rules of the game by not playing the role others might expect of you, you can both have more fun and be less identified with the way people perceive you. You realize how free you are, how light stories are, how much you can change them and choose different ones. It really is quite an awakening to break the rules (because you realize no one is actually enforcing them; that *you* were the ones enforcing them on yourself.)
