found a 23 year old bug in crimsonland (2003)
the game has a perk called stationary reloader that increases the reload speed 3x if you stand still. it has an edge case where the game's "is reload done?" logic is checked using normal frame time, but the perk subracts 3x per tick afterwards.
if the timer is between 1x and 3x frame time, it can underflow in one update after the refill check has already passed.
this results in a degenerative loop where the clip never refills, you can shoot one bullet and go back into the reload forever. this is especially apparent with angry reloader perk that shoots a burst of plasma halfway into the reload.
naturally, this is fixed in my version of the game.
i carefully document all the original bugs here and my version even has a --preserve-bugs option that keeps these behaviors. it's useful for differential testing and preservation purposes.
