Black CEO, Larry Fink's warns that capitalism is losing trust because AI is about to destroy jobs for everyone including college educated professionals who thought they were safe.
When globalization hit in the 1990s, it wiped out factory jobs but people still believed in the system because you could tell your kids to get educated and move into white collar careers.
AI is now threatening those white collar jobs too which means the entire ladder of opportunity collapses.
The data backs this up immediately.
Americans with four year college degrees now make up 25.3% of all unemployed workers, the highest level since records began in 1992.
This number has doubled since 2008, meaning roughly 1.9 million college educated Americans aged 25 and older are currently jobless.
Young graduates aged 22-27 face unemployment rates of 5.5%, more than double the rate of older college graduates.
People with degrees are competing for jobs that didn't exist five years ago or no longer pay enough to justify the student debt.
His core point is that if AI creates massive wealth for tech companies and their shareholders while ordinary people regardless of education face job losses and wage stagnation, people will stop believing in capitalism itself.
They won't "see it, touch it, and build a future on it," as Fink put it.
This breeds political instability, anger and potentially authoritarian movements.
When college educated workers realize their degree doesn't protect them anymore, the psychological shift is profound.
The implicit contract between society and individuals invest in your education, play by the rules, achieve stability is visibly breaking.
The AI job displacement problem is far worse than globalization was.
Estimates suggest 30% of white collar jobs could be automated within a few years, hitting lawyers, programmers, analysts, and financial professionals.
