Why are all the fees going to the L2? Not due to L2 greed or corruption, but for a much simpler reason: an L2 has no control over the $kas L1 fees. The only ones who directly control the fees are the miners. If txns pay minuscule fees, then the fees will be low. It has nothing to do with the content of the transactions, and L2 that it is related to (in this case @kasplex, but what I say holds generally). What you are seeing is not an L2 siphoning the network, but L1 miners not capitalizing on the TPS influx. (In KRC, Kasplex took a (bad) approach of forcing the transactions to pay fees by hardwiring a fee threshold to their protocol. The problem with threshold solutions is that they have to be manually updated to keep up with the market (at least until @eliottmea invents a mempool activity oracle).) Fees are not enforceable in consensus. They are determined by the market. Any miner can and should determine their fee charging policy. The problem? The feature has not been implemented yet, so changing the minimal fee requires modifying the code manually. Hence, my proposal to activate the Kaspa fee market is: 1. Implement an RPC command for setting a fee threshold (CLI is also good, but RPC is better because people will probably want to automate the process). I stress that this is not a global threshold, but an interface that allows each miner to determine their own minimum. 2. Kick-start the fee market by setting the default threshold to something that is very small, but not negligible. Say 0.01 Kaspa (which is 1000 times more than the current minimal fee). Hopefully, this functionality will encourage miners to set fees that better reflect their expenses, and the fee market will stabilize on a healthier fee average. This is a rather simple project, and a good opportunity for interested developers to get into Kaspa development.
