“Late packing” for Harmonic is mostly just an optics issue. Harmonic builders are processing txs continuously in real time. You just see the winning full block at the end of the slot because the auction has to compare submissions from multiple builders. This is the cost of competition and decentralization vs. a single-streamer/CEX-like monopoly. It’s no worse than what we will see under MCP with simultaneous release. If you’re a validator who wants to compete on performance, run Harmonic. If you’re a protocol that cares about best execution, measure outcomes. Let’s standardize objective performance reporting.
