Denmark generates 90% of its electricity from renewables.
They were the first country to tax farm pollution. First island powered entirely by clean energy. The poster child for everything the green movement promised.
And now they’re ripping out solar panels.
Villages started getting surrounded by them. Farmhouses walled in on every side. Drone footage went viral of families boxed in by metal where wheat used to grow.
“Iron fields” was voted their word of the year.
Solar only covers 0.2% of Danish farmland.
That’s it. The actual footprint is almost nothing. But the perception that rural communities are being sacrificed so city people can feel good about their carbon footprint? That was enough.
Councils are cancelling projects. The world’s first 100% renewable island just voted against new solar. National elections are Tuesday and this might decide them.
Denmark has so few sunny days that every new panel crashes electricity prices further into negative territory. Developers literally can’t make money building the thing the country is famous for.
The greenest country on earth is rejecting the very thing that made them green.
