One of the weirder outcomes of AI is that I no longer ask the like 7 people I used to ask for random stuff I just wasn’t good at or didn’t want to do.
I had two people I’d ask for help with spreadsheet formulas.
I had a couple people I’d ask for help analyzing some data sets.
…etc.
And what I’m realizing is that those little assists were really important for bonding with those people.
Without them I interact with them less. I thank them less. And their value is less felt by me on a regular basis.
Those little tokens of help are gone and not coming back.
And then what’s maybe even more interesting is that I find people are not replacing those interactions with high level help on things like AI tools, because everyone is so hectically trying to keep up themselves.
I have this hypothesis that society died a bit when smartphones came out. People used to be bored out of their mind and you didn’t feel weird talking to a cashier. Now you’re asking them to step away from the internet. Don’t doesn’t happen.
I’m feeling that with AI too. Coworkers users to be able to help and had the time too. It’s starting to feel like the future is that you won’t need help on small things and nobody will be able to step away from their agents for long enough for the big things.
