In Mexico, authoritarianism did not arrive suddenly. It came when we normalized abuse, when we justified lies, when we accepted that power does not have to be accountable "because it's for a good cause." Each weakened institution, each twisted law, each complicit silence empties democracy a little more. They are not taking it from us by force: we are tolerating it.
