Demoralized leftist foot soldiers respond with pathos, not logos. Their world arrives pre-interpreted through a rupture-and-repair script: a false oppressive system and its lackeys, unfairly marginalized victims, and an enlightened elect who are “awakened” and therefore obligated to “do the work” and dismantle the center. In that frame, trauma becomes both the credential for who counts as authentic and the glue that holds the group together. Feeling becomes proof. Hurt becomes authority. That’s why they scan for trauma and perform it: it signals belonging, enforces rank, polices boundaries, and keeps the outrage machine fed. And the same trauma logic is used for group cohesion: stir distress, offer meaning and community, bind people through a trauma-bond loop, then cash that loyalty out as mandated activism, with dissent treated as heresy and compromise as complicity.
