It seems that the Zcash community has much more appetite for native STARK verification primitives on the base layer than the Bitcoin community.
I am obviously not surprised, and it makes sense for multiple reasons:
- Zcash community already ZK-pilled from the inception, so it removes a lot of friction and fear, on Bitcoin there is much more need for education, advocacy, on ZK benefits themselves. (hopefully BitVM will contribute significantly to the ZK pilling of the Bitcoin community).
- Ossification culture on Bitcoin. I am personally pro trending to ossification long term, just think it's premature now given some of the things to be addressed anyway on Bitcoin, but by nature i have no issue with this and it's healthy and the fact that it's hard to change Bitcoin base layer is obviously part of the reasons why it's so resilient. Double edge sword potentially as it's also what could make it capturable down the line if the SoV only maxis win at the expense of p2p cash aspect. In general, i think it's a price worth paying despite all the frustration it causes.
- Much more at stake on Bitcoin. Breaking Bitcoin would of course have much bigger implications than breaking Zcash. Zcash being an "underdog" here makes it more in a position to take moderated "risks".
Technical note: TZE system is activated at some point is much more flexible and would be quite friendly to build Starknet like ZK rollups on top of Zcash. Much easier in comparison to a tailored made opcode in Bitcoin Script.
So yeah, i am not surprised, nonetheless it's interesting.
