Early internet folks have a specific mental retromania on internet as in used to be. They look at the past full of ownership, control & weirdness. It feels like "Paradise Lost". Retromania act as backward look. Striking contrast to futurism. With each nostalgia narratives Gen X+Y loose touch with Gen Z. Internet would never become "as it used to be", simply because you can't re-create the past. But maybe you can do better? Abstract, free-floating, assymetrical, suitable for small interests without ads, knowledge sharing across cultures & communities, free from corporates owning means of connections, and... fun.
