Elon Musk stands in an abandoned power plant and "proclaims" loudly: Building the largest chip factory in human history. And thus, TERAFAB was born (Full context ⤵️) *Honestly, I don't know whether to be excited or concerned about this news* TERAFAB is a collaborative project between Tesla + SpaceX + xAI, estimated to be worth 20 - 25 billion dollars, located in Austin, Texas, USA. Goal: To produce 1 terawatt of compute each year (To put it in perspective: The entire global chip industry currently only meets about 2% of this figure). In this presentation, Elon clearly stated his viewpoint: "We either build the TERAFAB, or we don’t have the chips." (translated: Either we build the Terafab factory, or we don’t have enough chips). It can be seen that TERAFAB will not need a "third party" to support their chip production capacity. The chips from TERAFAB will be divided into 2 types: ~ 20% for Earth: Running FSD, Robotaxi, millions of Optimus robots. ~ 80% for space: Solar-powered satellite data centers in orbit. The vision is extremely "ambitious": Planetary civilization, Kardashev scale, harnessing solar energy on a galactic scale. But we must also honestly admit: This is not the first time Elon Musk has painted such a grand picture. At Battery Day 2020, he promised to produce 3 TWh of batteries by 2030 with a 50% cost reduction. The actual results after 5 years, you already know....
