The solution to this is very simple. Journalists (at least in their capacity of writing about scholarly articles) should just be replaced entirely by people who actually know how to read papers, like @cremieuxrecueil and @Noahpinion

Almost no journalists have the ability to evaluate scholarly articles. Really, truly, almost none.
@cremieuxrecueil @Noahpinion There is no reason this can't happen: this is already how Twitter works! The model of informed poasters - putting their reputation at stake on each post due to the risk of a nasty but correct QT - tends to pretty efficiently produce truth, reflecting any meaningful uncertainties
