I've shared the topic of children's English with many friends. If you really plan to send your child abroad for study, the earlier, the better. At least from a language perspective, the younger the child, the stronger their ability to absorb foreign languages, and the less resistance there is. If I could choose, the best age would be between 4 and 5 years old.
After elementary school, the fourth grade should be a turning point. The difficulty of learning a foreign language increases significantly after the fourth grade, especially since many foreign schools only have five years of elementary education. They might just be getting used to it for a year before moving on to middle school, and starting in the sixth grade, the difficulty of the textbooks increases considerably. Just looking at a science class makes my head hurt.
In my personal understanding, English, driving, and swimming are three essential skills to master, especially English. If one can reach a native level, the job market is no longer limited to the highly competitive domestic sphere, and there’s no need to worry about being laid off after 35. Unfortunately, the quality of English education in mainland China has been declining recently, from demand to quality and even in exams.
For children, the world is vast, and only by mastering English can they truly go out and see it. Today, I attended a parent-teacher meeting for my child, and I found that their English level is already much higher than mine, which I couldn't even imagine back in my home country. The teacher said my child now has more friends in class and has become much more confident, which makes me very happy.
