ERC-8004 Genesis Event wrap-up 🧵 We just wrapped an incredible 2h+ community call celebrating 6 months since the first 8004 gathering and the end of “Genesis Month”. Some highlights 👇
/ ERC-8004 has quietly become the most active distributed agent registry globally: • ~130k agents across 20+ EVM chains • 97k+ with proper metadata after filtering • First non‑EVM implementation live • 4 independent audits (all contributed)
/ This is 100% community-built infrastructure: • Chains: 20+ L1/L2s helped deploy, communicate and onboard devs • Companies & teams: spec authors, smart contract contributors, auditors, infra/tooling providers • Builders: SDKs, explorers, scanners, agent frameworks, watchtowers, data providers
/ We’re still very early on actual “agent economies”: Revenues are low, but we’re seeing real experiments in: • On-chain agent identity & discovery • A2A payments and commerce • Task / job markets • DeFi, trading & RWA agents • Risk, reputation and validation
/ Three core challenges emerged: • Usefulness: are these agents actually helpful to end users & companies? • Security: spoofed agents, counterfeit skills, collusive reputation, prompt & delegation abuse • Data: high-quality, on-chain and off-chain signals about agents (identity, performance, risk, liability)
/ We saw concrete systems live today: @autonolas One of the earliest on-chain agent registries, now bridged into 8004 • 3.2k lifetime agents, ~663 DAAs • ~15M on-chain txs, many agent-to-agent • Pearl: self-custodial agent app store (e.g. prediction market agents) • Marketplace: agents monetizing services for other agents (e.g. Super Forecasters) @virtuals_io Agent Commerce Protocol (ACP) w/ buyer–seller–evaluator primitive • Escrowed “jobs” where payment is only released on successful evaluation • $3M+ revenue, 28k+ active users in ecosystem • All ACP agents auto-registered as ERC-8004 identities, ratings flowing into reputation @redstone_defi Data & risk layer for agentic finance • $6B+ assets secured (NAVs, prices, proof-of-reserves, FX, etc.) • Cordura DeFi risk ratings (S&P-style creditworthiness for on-chain assets) • Push + pull model so agents can operate on up-to-date, high-quality data @8004_scan Cross-chain explorer for 8004 agents • ~100k+ agents indexed, semantic search, filtering, scoring, feedback • Multi-chain deployment UI (one click to many chains) • Solana 8004 implementation also supported • SDKs, MCP, mobile apps, etc. for builders @Zyfai_ Segregated smart wallets that optimize low-risk DeFi yield • Each SciFi “agent” is an 8004 identity • Early use of 8004 Validation Registry design • zk proofs to verify off-chain decision policies on-chain @bondoncredit Credit scoring for agents, not just humans • Focus on stability & predictability over peak performance • Real capital deployed into semi-autonomous yield agents • Agent credit scores & sub-metrics pushed into 8004 reputation and exposed via APIs/watchtower @agent0lab Most-used TypeScript SDK for 8004 (~40k downloads) + Python SDK • Cross-chain semantic agent search with rich filters • Reachability watchtower & ratings • A2A + X402 tooling for discovery, messaging, and payments • Dev tooling (e.g. Cursor) for writing 8004 code & operating on-chain @daydreamsagents Task market & “commerce harness” for agents (wallet, 8004, A2A, X402, search) • Open task marketplace where agents (or humans) post and complete jobs • New EIPs for task/payment flows & markets to standardize agent commerce
/ Two amazing keynote perspectives: Erik Reppel @programmer (Coinbase, co-author of 8004 & x402) • “Dynamic agents” choose tools based on the task, not tasks based on fixed tools • Skills + x402 + open registries → agents can discover, pay for, and integrate capabilities • AI breaks the ad-based web → need direct micro-payments (x402) • We’re in the “AOL vs open Web” moment for agents, open systems must prevail! Nenad Tomašev @weballergy (Google DeepMind) • Multi-agent systems as coordination mechanisms, not just “chatbots with wallets” • AGI and risks may emerge from collectives of agents • Need robust delegation, monitoring, validation, and agent markets • Strong overlap with 8004 (identity, reputation, verifiable delegation/payments)
/ 8004 roadmap (next 1–2 quarters): • Make 8004 the default discovery layer for x402 services: Auto-register x402 endpoints as 8004 agents; Tight coupling with explorers, scanners, SDKs • Double down on reputation: High-quality data providers publishing signals into the registry • More on validation: New “TEE key registry” for validating keys/TEEs • Use payments (x402 flows) as reputation collateral • Conditional payments & jobs: ERC-8183 (agentic commerce / job escrow) evolving; Hooks, auctions, richer job flows; Stronger integration with x402 & 8004; new job/task standards • Support for high-leverage community infra/public goods
/ What we still need (call to action): • More useful agents • End-to-end workflows creating real value • Vertical “agent economies” or "agent networks" • More structured data APIs for agents, discovered via 8004, paid via x402 • Real value exchange, trust, constraints, enforced via 8004 + x402 + 8183 + zk + risk systems • Create the “Primordial soup” for agent evolution :)
/ Personally: I’m really grateful. • Grateful for everyone who showed up, shipped code, deployed contracts, wrote specs, audited, built tools and agents • Proud that ~6 months of work turned ERC-8004 into a leading distributed agent registry • Excited (and humbled) by what’s next: stronger models, more autonomy, open infrastructure
/ We’re not done; we just laid the rails. The next phase is about: • Useful, secure agents • Rich, verifiable data • Open, interoperable standards • The community pushing the frontier together
