In 1990, the music world was rocked by one of the biggest scandals in pop history: the revelation that Milli Vanilli, the charismatic duo of Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan never sang a note on their hit records.  The duo served as the faces of a project orchestrated by producer Frank Farian, who used session vocalists to record the tracks while Rob and Fab provided the look and the choreography. The facade began to crumble during a 1989 MTV performance when a malfunctioning hard drive caused a backing track to skip, trapping the duo in a cringeworthy "Girl You Know It’s..." loop. The truth finally came out in November 1990 when Farian publicly admitted to the ruse. Shortly after it came out, they became the first artists in history to have their "Best New Artist" award taken back.
