What are the signs before dying from staying up late?
There was a subcontractor I worked with before, a 28-year-old guy with a really good temper. His uncle brought him into the scaffolding rental business, but later his uncle's biological son came along, and he was gradually pushed out to start his own thing.
To get work, he would go around giving gifts and drinking, pouring all his earnings into it.
At home, his wife took care of the kids, and it all depended on him. One time at a dinner, I asked him, "With all this eating and drinking, can your body handle it?" He chuckled and said, "My whole family relies on me; I can't spend money recklessly."
On the day of the incident, he came to discuss something with me. As soon as he walked in, he seemed really agitated, pacing back and forth, saying he felt uncomfortable in his chest. When I looked up, I was shocked—his eyes were as red as if he were bleeding. I quickly had the foreman drive him to a top-tier hospital. The foreman later said that as soon as they entered the hospital, he collapsed.
The diagnosis was aortic dissection. He was lucky; being young helped him survive the emergency. Later, I found out he had been diagnosed with high blood pressure long ago but thought he felt fine and never took medication.
He survived, but all his savings went into medical bills, and his health deteriorated. He lay in the ICU for a long time, and when he came out, he had several scars on his chest. Two years later, he still gasped for breath while walking, curled up on the sofa at home soaking his feet, and could no longer work. His wife had no choice but to leave the kids and come to the construction site to cook.
Eventually, we slowly lost contact.
The body doesn't suddenly break down; it only reminds you step by step, but you just don't take it seriously.
