if you’re a startup founder, here’s what you’re actually buying when you hire an independent brand designer (like me).
you’re not really buying:
– a logo
– brand guidelines
– a website
those are deliverables. you’ll get them. but they’re not the main value.
what you’re really paying for is:
momentum without micromanagement
i suggest a path forward instead of waiting for instructions.
less on your plate
i don’t add unnecessary meetings or decisions to your already busy calendar
comfort with ambiguity
incomplete briefs, missing copy, shifting priorities — normal startup conditions. i work inside that.
good judgment on polish
knowing when “this is done, ship it” matters more — and when extra refinement will actually pay off.
thinking beyond the brief
not just executing what you asked for, but suggesting where else the brand could show up, and in what form.
a visual identity you can actually use
not a precious system that requires a designer to operate but something designed so:
– you can reuse assets without breaking the brand
– you can design with it yourself in slides, docs, or socials...
