Digital superintelligence is under way. Money will be an important coordination mechanism between humans for a brief period of time, and then disappear in its function between humans as we move to alternate forms of coordination which decouple governance from execution and ownership. The values we demonstrate now will be propagated into the digital superintelligences, so we must be thoughtful. Things will get confusing, frustrating and disorienting as the systems we used to coordinate today are overhauled. Life over the next two decades will get incredibly good for everyone. The hierarchies and battle for supremacy - “who’s the smartest”, “who’s got the most taste”, “who has the most resources”, will disappear at an increasing cadence. There will be an increasing irreverence for status symbols, especially those anchored in human achievement and dominance. What your favorite entrepreneur thinks doesn’t matter. The thought leader VC doesn’t matter. The politician on TV doesn’t matter. But the values we share together, and show through our words and actions do matter. So choose them well. We are all fallible. If we view destructive competition as the highest ideal, the AI systems we create will share this ideal and be even better at competing. Do not worship false prophets. Cease to pay attention to “ways in which you can get ahead today”. Do not despair in the sunsetting of our intelligence domination. These are ways of coping with a reality soon gone. Let’s live in a way we would be pleased with being copied and replicated infinitely. That’s the maxim of this era.
