It's hard because they can't tell you what they want, sometimes they get so distressed they reject the thing they want until offered 2-3 times, it's possible nothing you do helps because they're actually in pain, and you're usually trying to figure all this out sleep deprived

People make me laugh when they say babies are "hard" because they almost never say why. Is it because they get hungry, get cranky, cry, pee, poop, and vomit? Adults do all those things too.
Nothing will make you appreciate your toddler's burgeoning ability to scream "NO!" and "MINE!" and "WANT IT!" than remembering what it was like when you would have sold yourself into slavery for them to just tell you wtf they want
