Betelgeuse and its dusty surroundings in a 40-hour exposure The star Betelgeuse in the constellation Orion is shown along with its extended dusty surroundings in a total exposure of 40 hours. Astrophotographer Timothy Martin captured the image using a 106mm Petzval refractor. The image reveals fine structures of interstellar dust and faint clouds around the star, formed by its active mass loss.
