The Norwegian government has proposed significantly restricting access to certain welfare benefits for newly arrived refugees and immigrants, specifically during the first five years of their residence.
They argue that the current system pays more than entry-level jobs and discourages immigrants from taking up work.
Currently, Norway provides an “integration allowance” based on family size and location, which can go up to about $35,000 per year.
This news comes amid reports that 74% of economic social assistance in Norway is being paid to foreigners.
