One of California’s most environmentally stressed regions is finally getting more shade.
The Salton Sea Tree Shade Equity Project has planted around 220 new trees across communities surrounding the Salton Sea — the first shade-equity effort of its kind in the area – thanks to support from CAL FIRE’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program.
Expanding shade in this region helps cool streets, filter dust, create healthier outdoor spaces for residents and build stronger community resilience.
