What new things will cryptocurrency have in 2026?
Recently, a16z's tweet listed a total of 17 "big ideas," and the three ideas I resonate with the most are the following:
1. Privacy public chain track
Privacy chains will have stronger network effects than general public chains. Transferring tokens across chains is easy, but transferring "secrets" across chains is difficult. This stickiness will make it more likely for privacy public chains to have a "winner takes all" situation.
2. AI Agent economy
On one hand, it shifts from KYC to KYA, as agents begin to establish credit credentials; on the other hand, it requires support for micro-payments (mentioning x402) and a new attribution system to pay in real-time for each entity that helps the agent complete tasks.
3. The emergence of staking media
KOLs and media wanting to prove the credibility of their statements can stake tokens, and then readers can verify. Staking media will complement traditional media.
The article also discusses stablecoins, prediction markets, U.S. regulation, and other ideas. If you're interested, you can go read it.
