There is an intellectually fascinating overlap between @SamoBurja Long History thesis and @stewartbrand focus on Long Now and Maintenance. It can be argued that most people aren't familiar with prehistory because the Live Players back then were operating with a "first time founder" mindset and their endeavors weren't built to last the brutality of centuries. In that sense, ironically enough maybe the way to build for Long Now is not to try to predict the Future but to invest energy on Maintaining the things that are worth passing to future generations or at least making them anti-fragile. If this is right, then we will need to cultivate a culture of appreciation for what I call "progressive conservatives". Individuals who have the skill to both pick the things from the Past that truly matter AND know how to infuse innovation into them.
