My issue is that I actually love social climbers. When they’re good at it it’s almost an art and when they’re bad at it it’s really funny. I love hearing them name drop. I love the nervous skimming of the room at a party. I love their peripheral awareness of what they are and what they do. I love their imaginary rankings, hierarchies. I love Gatsby, I love Talented Mr. Ripley, and I would love Saltburn if Emerald Fennell weren’t the most stupid woman alive. I love it when they’re poor and sort of have a reason to be so craven but I love it even more when they’re just upper middle class people vying for a seat at the elite table. It really is my favorite thing in the world
