There is a cliff in the job market for young people in tech (and many other sectors). In the old world there was a path from junior (lots of ambition but low skill level) to senior. Junior people learned on the job and became senior. But nobody wants juniors anymore. AI can handle those jobs as well or better for a fraction of the cost. Which means that there is no path towards senior (and above). So young people are going to get stuck with fewer and fewer opportunities to grow as the old world fades away. (btw, this will ultimately hit more senior people but for now (and for a while) there is still a massive need for good senior people who know how to separate the good and bad coming out of AI and turn it into value). Young people were already being left behind on the housing market, and they are stuck with massive student debt. I don't see any societies preparing for what will happen to these young people, and the implications for the rest of society.
Not dunking on anyone but the solutions that people seem to be suggesting is that young people figure this out. Become entrepreneurs, find a new way to somehow skip the path that people have gone since jobs started being a thing. Sure, that's all good and I encourage people to be open and explore. But that's not going to work for most people. The vast majority of people want a job, they want guidance, to grow over time. They need some amount of safety, to spend time with their friends and family etc etc. Being an entrepreneur isn't a path for everyone, for all sorts of reasons.
