Hades 2: everything you liked about Hades, but more of it.
A particular standout for me so far is the Siren song “I an gonna claw (out your eyes and drown you to death)”, which, spoilers, described the most common way for my runs to end for at least eight hours.
I feel less emotionally attached to the story this time. Hades the original had some of the best meditations on father/son relationships I’ve seen in modern media, with some exploration of complexity of the specifically male experience.
But still at early chapter.
Perhaps it picks up depth/heft later. Either way: thoroughly enjoyable roguelike. If you like those you’ll like it.
(If I have any degree of genre savvy at all: in the early hours of the game it sets up an uncomplicated revenge story. The big bad has done your family wrong. Now you’re going to do it to him.
I… think it is likely on base rates that storyteller is going to try subverting that)
(Though, as alluded to, the main character is a woman, and if you write “You are a hero of uncomplicated righteousness and will come into your power then drive your enemies before you” in last few years, I feel you’re writing a woman character at p=0.95 or better.)
