Sean Bowe, a prominent Zcash developer and contributor, is now hiring Rust engineers to help shipping Tachyon. Tachyon is Zcash's scaling project, led by Sean. It introduces oblivious synchronization, a novel model where wallets maintain proof-carrying data (PCD) of their state to verify transaction validity up to recent blockchain points, allowing validators to prune old state and reduce contention without compromising privacy. By shifting to out-of-band payment secret distribution, deriving nullifiers to prevent information leakage, aggregating shielded transactions via PCD, and enabling oblivious syncing services that handle synchronization offline without accessing private note details, Tachyon eliminates scalability bottlenecks like heavy bandwidth and storage costs. This enables Zcash to scale to billions of users with increased transaction throughput, faster block verification, and preserved ledger indistinguishability, all while leveraging existing zk-SNARK expertise for a smooth, backwards-compatible rollout.
