The most productive area of debate in criminal justice policy lies well away from the poles of "Criminals are human garbage who should be treated as badly as possible, because they're GARBAGE" and "It's not the criminals we should indict, it's SOCIETY AND THE POLICE" but unfortunately those are the poles towards which online discourse seems to naturally gravitate.

You're going to hear a lot in the coming year about universities restructuring and downsizing or closing many majors or PhD programs, and while it is understandable that many people will assume this is a response to Trump or "antiwoke" pressure, you should keep in mind that we just hit peak high school senior and there has been a longterm decline in a lot of once-popular majors like English and history. These two facts would be a significant driver of restructuring even if Kamala Harris had won and we were halfway through Year One of the Joy Administration.

Trump’s inflation numbers are an abject disaster. No way the GOP keeps the House, if this data holds.
Trump's net approval is -25 pt. He led Harris by 9 pt on inflation in 2024.
Vs. the GOP at-large, Dems lead by 1 pt on inflation. Dems trailed by 13 going into 2022 midterms.

It would be nice if people didn't so naturally polarize between the two worst solutions: "lock people up forever" and "defund the police".

There are a zillion reasons Trump couldn't do this, starting with due process, moving on to the fact that DC is very small and does not have remote areas where you can stick your high-security prison that cuts gang leaders off from contact with the outside world, and finishing with the fact that DC, being very small, does not have law-enforcement authority over the neighborhoods where a lot of the offenders come from, which are located in Maryland and Virginia.

Trump has the opportunity to do a Bukele-style crackdown on DC crime. Question is whether he has the will, and whether the public the stomach. Big test: Can he reduce crime faster than the Left advances a counternarrative about “authoritarianism”? If yes, he wins. Speed matters.

This is embarrassing.
The whole "My d*ck is bigger!" based on where you went to graduate school is sad.
Look, Antoni is a partisan hireling who will DISTORT the data collection process, and then misrepresent the results.
The BLS staff is quite competent, and an ignorant cipher "in charge" would be fine, so long as s/he didn't actually interfere.
Antoni is going to interfere, and make the data useless. He's introducing bias, not noise, into the errors.
