We didn’t get everything right. But we caught lightning in a bottle for a minute, and that minute changed everything.
It was early 2021, the world was shut down, and like everyone else, I was stuck at home. That’s when I ended up on Clubhouse. At the time, people were starting to talk about NFTs and the future of digital art. Nobody really knew what this would become. It didn’t feel big yet. Just a bunch of us figuring it out in real time.
Then Beeple made that massive sale and everything exploded. Suddenly NFTs were the headlines of every room, and Clubhouse turned into a twenty-four hour event. You didn’t want to log off. You didn’t want to sleep. It felt like we were in the middle of something we might never see again and we were too euphoric to lose faith.
We spent our days explaining NFTs to anyone who would listen. Telling them this wasn’t a scam. That blockchain wasn’t a scam. That for the first time, artists had a way to control their own market. We were onboarding thousands of artists and we talked about provenance, immutable technology. We talked about legacy. We discussed digital ownership in a way that actually meant something.
And when we weren’t doing that, we needed to blow off steam. So we’d raid rooms. We’d put on ridiculous avatars like body builders or sloths or sandwiches and show up in random spaces to mess around. Sometimes we’d fill an entire audience with nothing but pickle PFPs. It sounds so dumb now, but we were exhausted and needed to laugh. It was all part of it. That mix of intensity and fun. That’s what kept us going.
Then Bored Ape Yacht Club showed up…

i’ve seen a few of these OG collections start to get picked up. an artist’s success is a mix of timing, market, and momentum, but none of it matters without persistence. when you love what you do and keep showing up, even when no one’s watching, everything eventually aligns. the money comes, the audience finds you, and the work speaks for itself. what makes many of these collections so unique is that the artists never quit. just keep creating @GM2US 👏
