Crypto finally gets some clarity with the Clarity Act passing the House.
But what's actually in it? Turns out, no one has actually read the whole bill—besides @RebeccaRettig1.
She gives us the cliff notes on Genius + Clarity, so you don't have to read it yourself. If you're in crypto, this will be on the quiz ⤵️

This feels like a good time to resurface this.

When I started building my Twitter audience, I thought more followers meant more influence.
But I soon realized many high-follower accounts are just engagement farmers or hyperposters with little real influence. They stir up fights and churn out populist takes, but when they take a stand, no one cares.
Interestingly, the real movers and shakers often don't have that many followers. This confused me for a while.
This is actually a common phenomenon, known as Berkson’s Paradox or “the tails come apart.” Two things that are initially correlated—followers and influence—decorrelate at the extremes.
For most people, the value of each new follower becomes logarithmic beyond a certain point. I suspect it craters around 30-40K for most accounts.
It’s different for brand accounts or businesses that directly appeal to followers, but when evaluating individuals, this was a major insight for me.

Really happy to see the crypto industry growing up WRT transparency and disclosures.
This is excellent work by Coinwatch, giving teams more transparency over their market makers (using TEEs under the hood!).
More coming.

Today we’re announcing Coinwatch Track - a new way for crypto projects to see what their market makers are doing in real-time, using their API keys.

It is now obvious that the growth of digital dollars and stablecoins is not only the most important story in crypto, but all of finance.
There are hundreds of billions in latent TradFi demand for crypto exposure, but this demand is primarily focused on a narrow subset of themes:
BTC, ETH & stablecoins.
The launch of StablecoinX will provide the first pure play exposure for equity investors to the fastest growing company in the most important thematic trend in crypto: digital dollars upgrading money into the internet era and eating all of finance in the process.

In 2018, @naval hired me to be a human ChatGPT for crypto white papers. That's how I got my start as a crypto investor. My job was to read ICO white papers and report back if they made sense. Unsurprisingly, most did not.
Back then, LLMs didn’t exist. If it weren't for that, I might never have become an investor.
Today, the white paper I just tossed into o3 was probably written by another LLM. Intelligence has now become less important among junior investors, and charisma has become more important. LLMs can parse the pitch, but the ability of a junior investor to find and win over the founder can't be automated.

Does anyone have a serious proposal of how US-based foundations or DUNAs would deal with token-related tax issues?

Lily Liu19.7. klo 10.53
“How can we get foundations to onshore to the US?”
Under current corporate tax policy - and currently discussed tax changes - it is not possible.
Currently, every token transfer in the USA is considered a transfer of (appreciated) property. Because foundations typically have ~$0 cost basis on their tokens, every transfer of tokens thus incurs corporate tax, which practically means a 25% tax on every transaction - not to mention an administrative nightmare. No one can afford to pay $125 every time they spend $100.
De minimus doesn’t address this because $600 doesn’t pay for much in a corporate context.
Foundations today sit in Cayman where corporate tax is 0%. Spend $100 in your token, actually spend $100.
An older gen of foundations sit in Switzerland, where tax rulings make it such that if you spend $100 in your token, you end up paying about $1 in taxes during your annual filing.
