I woke up today and went to Italian Twitter to see the vibe on the justice referendum cause maybe I hate myself. Gonna regret it soon when the algorithm thinks I want more of that 😭
I usually don't talk about politics but this one I care about cause I'm Italian, born and raised.
All I wanna say is: moving out of Italy was the best decision I ever made.
It's sad and frustrating to watch that country, which is genuinely beautiful and amazing, stay stuck in the same loops. Same debates for decades, same resistance to any change.
I'm not here to comment on whether the reform was right or wrong, that's not my point.
What gets me is the reaction: people celebrating that they "protected the Constitution". Protected it from what? From evolving? From adapting to a society that looks nothing like 1948?
Alright buddy, enjoy your protection.
No wonder the smartest minds leave:
> 156,000 Italians left the country last year alone, highest in 25 years
> over a million have left in the past decade, a third of them young professionals between 25 and 34
> for every young foreigner who moves to Italy, 9 young Italians leave
> Italy is the only EU country where real wages have declined since 1990
People don't leave because they hate Italy. They leave because Italy doesn't give them a reason to stay. And sadly, that's not going to change.
To all my Italian friends: SCAPPATE SE POTETE!
