The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits is facing backlash for its recent left-wing award nomination message to members.
One nonprofit leader who recently left the organization said:
“Over the past several years, MCN’s messaging has increasingly reflected a specific political and ideological framework rather than maintaining the neutrality one would expect from an organization that presents itself as representing the nonprofit sector as a whole.
The language used in this email—referencing a ‘racial reckoning,’ ‘attacks on our neighbors,’ and promoting ideologically framed award categories signals that MCN has moved beyond simply supporting nonprofit operations, governance, and collaboration. Instead, it appears to be positioning itself as an advocacy organization advancing a particular social and political narrative.
That is a legitimate choice for any organization to make. However, the problem arises when MCN simultaneously claims to represent the nonprofit sector broadly across Minnesota.”
