I see this first hand in commercial/industrial vacancy rates in Burbank. Landlords don't want to lower $/sqft but many great buildings have been vacant for years and they'll lease them with 18-24 months free plus other perks if you ask nicely and sign the lease!
And yes, a cautionary tale for the industry and for regulators. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Make films and TV that people actually want, work with your industry to create value rather than fight over scraps, and avoid insane regulatory burdens.
It turned out that there *was* a limit to the amount of nonsense people would see on TV before switching to other media. It turned out that producers *did* have an alternative to meeting writers' union demands on pay and conditions. And it turned out that there *was* an alternative to making everything in LA and many other cities would roll out the red carpet, figure out remote work for post-production, etc.
Anyway, my policy is that we should build a new series of high technology plants in Burbank. Skunkworks 2.0!
