This morning I was tormented by bloating pain for the whole morning, probably due to eating too much rough fiber last night. I took some medicine and it gradually eased.
I thought of a question I have pondered repeatedly: happiness is not an absolute concept, but a relative one.
When I was young, I was particularly afraid of mediocrity and boredom. I not only pursued achievements but sometimes even deliberately sought out danger and excitement.
I remember once chatting with a friend from a wealthy family. Their company ran into big problems, and his father was implicated. He was forced to be on standby in Beijing for any summons or investigation from the authorities.
He told me that after dealing with this mess, he would feel that life had a bit of something to do every day, and enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee in the afternoon would be quite nice.
I felt the same way.
Happiness is actually being able to eat well, sleep well, and have good bowel movements; having oneself and family safe, without worrying about basic needs, is quite good.
If there are some small hobbies or little businesses to engage in, and I can experience flow every day, that would be even better.
What should I exchange for this? Getting rich quickly, but living in fear every day, not sleeping well or eating well, and even taking risks?
It's unnecessary.
Keep a good safety cushion, whether it's investing or speculating, and don't let it affect the most ordinary happiness of yourself and your family; that's the most important thing.
