Everyone should keep an eye out on Tehran tomorrow night. It’s the first showdown between Iranians and the regime since the start of war. “Chahar-shanbe Suri” is an ancient Iranian festival where people gather around fire and light up fireworks. Few days ago the regime announced that the festival is banned due to war and “security” reasons. They have issued death threats and promised severe punishments, even going as far as calling participants “mossad” agents. The opposition leader Reza Pahlavi has on the other hand called for people to celebrate this festival and show resistance. How people respond will give us an invaluable insight into the population’s psyche and where everyone is at. Are they scared? Are they gonna show rebellion? Can IRGC still crackdown like before? We should get answers.
