Carbon Fiber Breakthrough China has just begun industrial production of T1200 carbon fiber, one of the strongest structural materials ever manufactured. This new fiber reaches a tensile strength of over 8 gigapascals, making it about 10 times stronger than steel by weight while weighing only 1/4 as much. Each filament is thinner than 1/10 the width of a human hair, yet when bundled together they form extremely strong composite materials used in advanced engineering. After nearly 20 years of research, China has achieved industrial-scale production of about 100 tons per year. In a demonstration, a rope made from 120,000 carbon-fiber filaments, less than 2 mm thick, was able to tow a bus carrying more than 50 adults. Hoping you know 👀! Ultra-high strength carbon fiber is a strategic material used in spacecraft, rockets, drones, aircraft, electric vehicles, robotics and next generation wind turbines.
