I was really shocked; I got blocked for casually liking a tweet from a Japanese blogger... I just learned that many people in Japan treat social media as a semi-private space, and even if the account is public, it is assumed to be for their followers or like-minded individuals. For some Japanese people, liking a post is seen as crossing a boundary or being intrusive??! 😅 If you are not mutually following, there's also this expression for comments: FF外から失礼します (Excuse me for interrupting from a non-mutual follow). Interacting with strangers requires a polite introduction first. 😭
