It does not matter how cypherpunk or hardened your protocol is if nobody uses it. If the vision of Ethereum is to spread cypherpunk values to the world then the best way to do it is to provide a compelling product that people want to use that also happens to satisfy cypherpunk values. On a typical day, Ethereum does about 2 million transactions. The average person in the world makes 1.4 payments a day and there are 7.5 billion people in the world. The EF views cypherpunk and IBRL as fundamentally in tension which may be true at some theoretical level after everything that can be optimized has been. But the reality is that Ethereum’s protocol design is not optimized whatsoever for latency or throughput. The most effective way to spread cypherpunk values to the world is to build something that people want to use that also happens to have cypherpunk as a feature. That is what we are building at Solana.
