Thank you, Congressman Thomas Massie🙏🏽🇺🇸 I was removed from a Religious Liberty Commission for expressing views consistent with my Catholic faith and the moral teachings of my Church. In America, no one should be removed from a commission on religious liberty for speaking according to their sincerely held religious beliefs. The First Amendment exists precisely to protect the right of Americans to speak openly about their faith without fear of punishment from or exclusion. Silencing someone for articulating the moral principles of their Catholic faith raises serious concerns about viewpoint discrimination and about whether the government is truly respecting the freedoms it claims to protect. Religious liberty is not a partisan issue. It is a first amendment right. If someone can be removed from a Religious Liberty Commission for speaking according to their faith, then the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution are weakened for everyone. Thank you, Congressman Massie, for standing firm in defense of those freedoms when it would be easier to stay quiet. The willingness to defend the Constitution, even under political pressure, is the kind of leadership our country needs.
