I’ve come to believe that curiosity is more important than most other traits. I’m not particularly skilled at anything, at least not to the degree where I’d consider myself an expert. However, curiosity can take you surprisingly far. I've had my share of wrong opinions and held them rather strongly in the past. I probably still do. What I’ve come to value is being corrected, and I genuinely wish more people felt comfortable telling me when I’m going off the rails.
Though I get it, good feedback takes real time and effort, and you can’t expect that from anyone. Which might be exactly why the most useful feedback I’ve received rarely came from experts, but other curious autodidacts. Curiosity might just be what makes someone willing to sit with your thinking long enough to actually push back on it.
