Small little piece of $Buttcoin lore: Back in June 2011, when the price of Bitcoin was around $30, it had a small price drop to around $25 that got people spooked. The pool of investors were pretty small back then, there was only one main exchange and everyone mostly hung out on the BitcoinTalk forums. A new user, who I can neither confirm nor deny was a Buttcoiner, decided to make a thread in their forums titled "BITCOIN IS CRASHING SELL SELL SELL". Just a single post in the forums with a picture of a small dip in price caused the price of Bitcoin to crater, hitting $15 in about 20 minutes time. Half the value gone in an instant. The price eventually came back up to the previous levels over the next few hours, but people started pointing fingers at me and the Buttcoin thread I started on the SomethingAwful forums. They even put a "hit" out on us in the form of a DDOS request on Reddit. The post was eventually deleted and the poster banned. I've never revealed who actually caused that flash crash.
