The 61st regular session of the UN Human Rights Council has just started in Geneva. One of the main topics is whether the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese should be forced out due to her recent statements at the Al Jazeera forum in Qatar. France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Czechia are calling for her removal speaking about Israel as “a common enemy" of humanity. France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot was the first to publicly demand her resignation and said he would raise the question at this year’s UN Human Rights Council (HRC). Albanese was appointed in 2022 for an initial three-year term and was renewed for another three years in April 2025.
