My 18‑year‑old son is about to choose his university subject. We’ve debated this many times. I initially encouraged him to consider economics and finance, and he went quite far down that rabbit hole. But after more discussion and some research using AI, he’s now leaning toward engineering, most likely construction engineering, just like my father. Apparently, construction engineers will be in short supply now and in the coming years. This aligns with what my father has been telling us as well. He’s the chairman of a large construction organization and has worked with some of the biggest construction firms in the world. Given that my son loves math, physics and chemistry, I think it is perfectly fine whatever he chooses. Everything is interesting. So here’s my advice to all fathers and young men: Don’t just pursue your passion, also research which fields are least likely to be replaced by AI in the future. Choose something that the world needs, something that your country needs. Something that you are good at. I'm the truth teller. The voice of reason. Comment your thoughts below.
