The most annoying part about taste discourse is that it gives everyone a chance to humblebrag that it’s “not a skill and can’t be developed”, and thus they are Special. Of course it’s a skill, and just like any other skill there’s a range of natural talent people have - but that doesn’t mean it’s some obscure, uninterpretable gift. And because “taste” overtook execution as the main bottleneck to building successful products, there’s a lot of people just coping with their skills being commoditized and trying to figure out how they’re unique / special / born different etc
